China is willing to support Guinea-Bissau in achieving food self-sufficiency, said the Chinese Ambassador to the African nation, Wang Hua, according to online news portal Macauhub.

“There is a lot of work to do for Guinea-Bissau to reach its food independence and solve the hunger problem in the country,” said the Chinese diplomat, adding there was a need for Guineans and the international community to join hands in order to achieve those goals.

Mr Wang also noted – as quoted by the media outlet – Guinea-Bissau had an excellent climate and favourable soil conditions for the production of food. He said China was willing to help the African nation to do so with the “work and involvement of all Guineans”.

Mr Wang was speaking last weekend in Canchungo. The Chinese Embassy in Guinea-Bissau last week donated medicines to a hospital there. The donation was estimated to be worth approximately US$12,000.
