Guinea-Bissau will welcome this week approximately 150 official and business representatives from China and Portuguese-speaking Countries and places. Participants will gather at a business meeting aimed at discussing economic and trade co-operation, Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua reported on Tuesday.

The coordinator of the meeting, Bruno Jauad, said – as quoted by the media outlet – the country will welcome the delegations to the Guinean capital, Bissau, between April 9 and 11.

The theme of the meeting is “Platform for Business Internationalisation in West Africa”, the coordinator said.

China’s Ambassador to Guinea-Bissau, Wang Hua, stated: “I believe this forum will be decisive in the fight against poverty in some Portuguese-speaking Countries, particularly in Guinea Bissau.”

Delegations from Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Mainland China and Macau, Mozambique, Portugal and East Timor will take part in the meeting, according to online news portal Macauhub.

The event is being organised by Guinea-Bissau’s Government, in partnership with the China Council for International Investment Promotion and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, the online news portal said. The Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) – also known as Forum Macao – is additionally taking part in the event.
