China will provide training on road traffic safety and related matters to 20 police officers and civil servants from Cape Verde, Cape Verdean news agency Inforpress reported on Thursday.

Du Xiacong, Chinese Ambassador to Cape Verde, made the announcement during a visit to Cape Verde’s national road safety agency. The training – to take place this year – would be held in China, he said.

Mr Du added that overall co-operation between China and Cape Verde “will be strengthened in the future”.

The head of Cape Verde’s national road safety agency, João José de Pina, said the training would help local authorities in reducing the country’s traffic accident rate by half.
