Macao sets up committee to boost Sino-Lusophone ties

The Macao Government has created a new committee aimed at boosting the role of the city as a trade co-operation service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, it announced this week.

The Committee for Development of the Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries will be responsible for drafting a development blueprint for Macao based on the city’s ‘Platform Policy’.

The Platform Policy is a strategy – endorsed by the Chinese Central Government – aimed at leveraging on Macao’s unique position to promote cooperation ties between Mainland China, Portuguese-speaking Countries and Macao.

Macao’s Chief Executive will chair the committee, which will also conduct research and draft guidelines related to the Platform Policy.

Under the Platform Policy, Macao has contributed to boost cultural exchange and trade between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. In addition, the city has provided assistance and consultancy services to third parties, in fields including translation and other language-related matters; finance; legal affairs; and accounting.
