A Chinese-built motorway in Zaire province in northern Angola will be completed by June 2017, Angolan news agency Angop reported.

It is being constructed by Chinese state-owned firm Sinohydro Engineering Bureau No 4 Co Ltd.

Liu Yawming, director-general in Angola for the Chinese company, confirmed the completion date on Friday, after a site visit by provincial governor José Joanes André.

The 96-kilometre motorway will connect the cities of Nzeto and Soyo in Zaire province, Angop said.

Mr Liu noted that some financial constraints that previously stalled the project had been fully overcome due to a new credit line offered to Angola by China. Portuguese news agency Lusa reported last month China would provide US$5.2 billion to the African nation for funding 155 projects there.

Online news portal Macauhub reported the motorway in Zaire province had been stalled for eight years due to previous financial constraints.
