Mozambique’s Minister of Science and Technology, Jorge Nhambiu, has praised Sino-Mozambican co-operation on technology, Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua reported on Thursday.
In an interview with Xinhua, Mr Nhambiu said such bilateral collaboration was in a “quite advanced” stage.
The Minister also said – as quoted by the media outlet – the two countries have many opportunities for co-operation regarding information technologies and communication technologies.
He added he warmly welcomed further Chinese investment, especially in the training of professional technicians.
Mr Nhambiu said his ministry is currently co-operating with two Chinese digital technology companies – Huawei and ZTE – on technical matters.
“To name a specific example, Huawei is helping to build the first data centre in Mozambique, which is now in its final stage,” the Minister said.
According to Xinhua, Mozambique’s National Data Centre, at the Science and Technology Park in the Manhiça district of Maputo Province, has been funded through loans provided by the Export-Import Bank of China.
