Chinese automaker BYD has announced a partnership with Brazilian transportation company by the 99 app to offer 300 electric cars to partner drivers who run in the city of São Paulo. The vehicles will be available before October and the monthly rental cost should reach R$5,500. To encourage leasing, 99 will give a R$2,000 subsidy to interested parties.

According to BYD, the car to be available is the D1s EV, which was created jointly with Chinese DiDi, owner of 99, specifically to serve the app market. According to 99’s Innovation Director, Thiago Hipólito, there are plans to expand the action to other cities and states.

There are also parts of the project: Dahruj Rent a Car, the car rental company responsible for acquiring the vehicles; Santander bank, which financed the operation; and Ituran, from the vehicle monitoring and recovery sector, which will structure the fleet management.
