On the 3rd of July, the president of Brazil, Lula da Silva, inaugurated the first stage of the West-East Integration Railroad (FIOL) works in the city of Ilhéus, in the state of Bahia.
This first phase of FIOL (FIOL I) will connect Caetité to Ilhéus. When the three phases of FIOL are completed, the railway will connect with the Norte-Sul and Centro-Oeste to form Brazil’s national rail network. The railroad has a capacity to move up to 60 million tons per year.
FIOL I will be 537 kilometers long, and the company China Railway No.10 Engineering Grupo Co., Ltd (CREC 10) is in charge of building the first part of FIOL I, which is 126 kilometers long. The duration of the work is 36 months.
Li Haifeng, executive chairman of CREC 10, stated that as a state-owned enterprise in China, our company strives to build FIOL’s work with a high standard, sustainability and benefit to the local people. We dedicate our high-quality contribution to China’s One Belt, One Road Initiative.
