Brazil’s beef exports had a recovery in June, but closed the semester with a drop of 3.8%, to 1.02 million tons, with the sector dealing with an embargo from China (already suspended), data from the Abiec, an association that brings together the country’s main exporters.
In all, Brazil earned US$4.8 billion from beef exports in the first half of 2023, down 21.4%, Abiec added. The association recalled that an atypical case of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) in February impacted business in the first half.
Shipments to China dropped 5% in volume and 29% in revenues. Even so, the main importer of Brazilian beef in the first six months was China, with purchases of 512,306 tons, generating revenues of US$2.6 billion, which has the main producers and exporters among its members, such as JBS, Marfrig and Minerva.
