There is potential for China to develop its football sector via cooperation with Portugal, said Huang Songfu, the Chinese Ambassador to the European Union nation.

Mr Huang’s comments came in a meeting earlier this week with Luís Duque, President of the Portuguese League for Professional Football, according to a statement issued by the Chinese Embassy.

Mr Huang was quoted saying Portugal was “experienced” in football development planning, personnel training and management of football leagues.

The ambassador “appreciated” that the Portuguese side showed interest in developing cooperation with China, namely on football personnel training.

“There is a bright prospect for China and Portugal to cooperate in football,” Mr Huang added.

Mr Duque was quoted in the Chinese Embassy statement as saying he was looking forward to work on bilateral cooperation with China.
