INESC-ID announced the creation of the new Sino-Portuguese Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Public Health Technologies, in partnership with three Chinese institutions: the Guangzhou Laboratory (GL), Guangzhou Medical University (GMU) and the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST). The project was formalized yesterday, March 5, in Lisbon, to strengthen international collaboration in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to public health.
This collaboration has already enabled access to important funding for research and development, and there is a prospect that new projects funded by Chinese agencies will be approved soon, such as the Fund for the Development of Science and Technology (FDCT), in Macau, and the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), in Portugal.
Zhao Bentang, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Portugal, who was also present at the agreement ceremony of the Sino-Portuguese Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Public Health Technologies, stated that, “the founding of this laboratory also reflects the strong conviction that China and Portugal must face global challenges together, which can only be overcome effectively through international cooperation.
