Somagec Moçambique, a subsidiary of state-owned China Energy Engineering Group Co. Ltd, intends to build a power station in Nacala-a-Velha in the northern Mozambican province of Nampula, O País reports.

The Mozambican newspaper says Somagec Moçambique and Mozambican national utility Electricidade de Moçambique are jointly planning a coal-fired power station with a capacity of up to 200 megawatts, and are waiting for the government to finish considering the environmental impact study.

The report says the power station would require the investment of about 21.7 billion meticais (US$35.8 million).

The construction work would create 1,850 jobs and last until 2022, the report says.

Once open, the power station would employ 300 people and ease the shortage of electricity in Nampula, O País says.
