A consortium of China Communications Construction Co. Ltd and China Railway 20 Bureau Group Corp. will be awarded the contract to build and operate a road bridge in the northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia, BNAmericas reports.

The business intelligence website quotes Bahia Infrastructure Secretary Marcus Cavalcanti as saying the consortium formed by the Chinese state-owned companies “was the only one to file all the necessary documents in time” and will be the only bidder when the 35-year contract is auctioned tomorrow on the São Paulo stock exchange.

The report says the 12.4 km bridge will link the state capital, Salvador, to the island of Itaparica.

The contract includes the construction of 4.6 km of access roads in Salvador and a 21.4 km expressway on Itaparica, and improvement of a stretch of highway that already serves the area, the report says.

The project cost is 5.3 billion reais (US$1.27 billion), BNamericas says.
