Updates to the respective minimum wage for several economic sectors in Mozambique were announced this week. The increases represent increments of between 3.6 percent and 12.5 percent in the relevant sectors, announced Vitória Diogo, Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security.
The increases in minimum wage are retrospective, with effect from April 1.
Those working in agriculture will enjoy the smallest rise in minimum wage – a total of 3.6 percent – translating to a minimum monthly salary of 3,298 meticais (US$66). The minimum wage in manufacturing rose by 8 percent, to 5,200 meticais.
Employees in banks and insurance companies will enjoy a minimum wage increase of 8.7 percent to 8,750 meticais, according to the announcement.
