On March 4 and 5, Rio Grande do Sul received a delegation from China to evaluate the animal health defense system.

The team from East Asia was received by the Department of Animal Health Surveillance and Defense of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Sustainable Production and Irrigation (DDA/Seapi), where they learned about risk mitigation activities and management control tools, with a view to Rio Grande do Sul being recognized as an area free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) in May 2021.

On March 4, the five auditors, four from the General Administration of Customs China (GACC) and one from the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture, were received at the headquarters of the Secretariat of Agriculture, where they learned about the structure of the DDA and the Health Defense System in the state, the tools used and the control systems.

Federal agricultural inspectors from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) also attended the meeting.
