The Chinese car manufacturer BYD will lay the foundation stone for its factory in Bahia on the 9th of October and is planning to start production by the end of 2024, a company representative in Brazil said on the 28th of September.

The company has been negotiating with the government of Bahia for months to set up a factory complex that will produce vehicles and battery components and serve as the brand's export centre for the region.

BYD's special advisor in Brazil, Alexandre Baldy, said that BYD currently has 35 shops open in Brazil and another 65 under construction. According to him, the factory will open with a production capacity of 150,000 cars per year, which will be reached gradually.

BYD's plan, which calls for an investment of R$3 billion in the country, including spending on the Camaçari factory complex and new models, foresees six to eight vehicles being manufactured in Bahia, including a plug-in flex hybrid.
