Chinese Justice Minister Wu Aiying will be the special envoy for China at the inauguration of Mozambique’s new President, Filipe Nyusi, state-run news agency Xinhua reported.

The agency quoted Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei as saying on Tuesday that the country decided to send an envoy “at the invitation” of the Mozambique authorities.

Mr Nyusi, from the ruling Front for the Liberation of Mozambique – known as Frelimo – will be sworn in on Thursday.

He was elected last October as the southern African country’s fourth president since its independence in 1975. Mr Nyusi replaces incumbent President Armando Guebuza, also from Frelimo, who has served a maximum two terms.
