China has turned over the US$25-million Angolan Higher Institute of Foreign Affairs to the Angolan government, Lusa reports.

The Chinese Embassy in Luanda issued a written statement about the Higher Institute of Foreign Affairs, saying it occupies 4 hectares of land in Camama, in the province of Luanda. The embassy says construction work began in December 2016 and ended last December.

The facility comprises nine buildings containing administration offices, classrooms, dormitories for instructors and trainees, and a canteen, Portuguese news agency quotes Chinese Ambassador to Angola Cui Aimin as saying. The institute has the capacity to train 600 people a year, he added.

The report quotes Mr Cui as saying the institute is one of the biggest gifts China has ever given Angola, and a milestone in the history of Sino-Angolan cooperation in education.

Mr Cui expects the institute to increase Sino-Angolan exchanges, the Chinese Embassy quotes the Ambassador as saying.

China also intends to begin building this year a training centre in the Angolan province of Huambo, which will give training in various occupations, Lusa reported.
