Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Yang Wanming has said his country may agree in negotiations next month to import more Brazilian meat, Reuters reports.

“We believe, through the co-operation of both countries’ agriculture ministries and quality inspection departments, more Brazilian farm and animal products can be imported into the Chinese market,” the news agency quotes Yang as saying.

Mr Yang said Brazilian Agriculture Minister Tereza Cristina Dias would discuss the matter in China next month, and that Chinese permission for more imports of Brazilian meat might be announced when Brazilian Vice-president Hamilton Mourão visited China later that month.

The ambassador said Chinese might invest more in Brazil this year, depending in part on the Brazilian government plan for spurring economic growth with social security and tax reforms.

The annual amount of Chinese investment in Brazil is expected to turn out to have shrunk last year from its historical peak in 2017, Reuters says.
