Bank of Mozambique Governor Rogério Zandamela has said the country needs reforms and fiscal discipline if its economy is once again to grow as fast as it did before the debt crisis last year, Reuters reports.

The news agency says the economic growth rate could be 4.7 percent this year, slower than the average annual rate of 7 percent in the eight years before 2016.

The report quotes the central banker as saying monetary policy next year would concentrate on keeping the inflation rate below 10 percent.

The annual rate of inflation is now 7.15 percent, Reuters says, after hitting over 20 percent in 2016.
