Cabo Verde Foreign Minister Chinese Luís Filipe Tavares has said representatives of his country and China are negotiating the construction of a US$15 million convention centre in Praia, Inforpress reports.

The Cabo Verde news agency quotes Mr Tavares as saying he and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed the convention centre when they met in China last week and reviewed Sino-Cabo Verde cooperation.

Mr Tavares said he and Mr Wang also discussed the construction of a maternity hospital on the Cabo Verde island of São Vicente, and the second phase of an urban security scheme, which has begun on São Vicente and will spread to the islands of Sal and Boa Vista.

Mr Tavares was in China last week for a meeting on Sino-African cooperation, and the first Sino-African trade expo.
