Portuguese consumers made at least 420,000 orders on the AliExpress shopping website on November 11, the Chinese Singles Day holiday, having made 300,000 orders a year earlier, ECO reports, citing figures given by the Portuguese post office, CTT.
AliExpress is run by Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, which last year struck a deal with CTT on the delivery in Portugal of goods bought on its international shopping website, the Portuguese financial news website says.
Separately, the Chinese government-run news agency, Xinhua, quotes Alibaba as saying the value of Singles Day online sales by the group grew to 268.4 billion yuan (about US$38.3 billion) this year, about 25.7 percent more than last year and the most on record.
