On March 19, the Confucius Institute at Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique's largest university, signed a memorandum of understanding with two local secondary schools to promote the teaching of the Chinese language in the country.
“Language is a bridge that connects civilizations,” said Liu Jichao, director of the Confucius Institute in Maputo, stressing that this collaboration will play a role in strengthening economic and cultural ties between the two nations. “In the future, these students could become bridges for China-Mozambique economic and trade cooperation,” he said.
Sabino Congolo, principal of Francisco Manhanga Secondary School and Orlando Lima, principal of Josina Machel Secondary School in Maputo City spoke at the event, pointing out that, for the students, learning Mandarin offers a direct link to one of the world's most important economies and provides valuable skills in an increasingly interconnected world.
