A team of researchers from China and Brazil has discovered an almost complete fossil of a new species of pterosaur in Liaoning province, in northeastern China. The find was made in Jianchang County and dates back approximately 160 million years, to the Late Jurassic Period.

The study, conducted by experts from the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology (IVPP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Jilin University, the Regional University of Cariri, the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and other institutions, was recently published in the journal Annals of the Brazilian Academy of Science.

According to Wang Xiaolin, one of the corresponding authors of the study and a researcher at the IVPP, the Sino-Brazilian team will continue to work on in-depth research into the evolution, lifestyle and environment of these pterosaurs, as well as carrying out global comparisons with other fossil species.
