The tourism industry of southern Huila province could support the diversification of the Angolan economy, said the head of the local Hotel and Tourism Department, João Silvestre Figueiredo.
He told the Angolan news agency Angop there were a number of sites in Huila of interest to tourists. He said that potential was supported by sound basic infrastructure in those places, including roads, hotels, and restaurants.
Mr Figueiredo noted development of tourism could ensure employment for local residents.
The report said Huila currently had 10 hotels, 16 guesthouses and 113 restaurants, and received approximately 15,000 visitors per month.
