With a Chinese delegation of representatives from the China University of Petroleum (CUP) and the main Chinese state-owned oil companies, led by China's Minister of Education, Huai Jinpeng, the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) signed a memorandum to creat the China-Brazil Institute of Outstanding Engineers, an institution that aims to produce teaching and research excellence in the field of engineering at the UFRJ.
The operation of the Institute of Engineers follows the “2+2” logic, namely two universities and two companies. The UFRJ and the Petrobras cooperate with the CUP and the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (Cnooc), the country's main state-owned oil producer.
The rector of UFRJ, Roberto Medronho, said that more than the opening of a center, this cooperation is a milestone in Brazil-China relations. This institute will make great contributions to engineering in both countries.
