China leading importer of Angolan goods in Q3 2014

China was the main importer of Angolan products in the third quarter of 2014, according to data published this week by the Angolan National Statistics Institute. Portugal was the main exporter of products to Angola during the period.

In the three months to September 30, China was the destination for 49.5 percent of all Angolan exports, followed by Spain, which received 6.2 percent, India with 5.6 percent, the United States with 5.5 percent and France with 5.1 percent.

Portugal accounted for 14.7 percent of Angola’s imports, followed by China with 12.6 percent, Singapore with 11.4 percent, the U.S. with 8.8 percent and the United Arab Emirates with 5.1 percent.

Overall, Angola exported goods worth 1.51 trillion kwanzas (US$14.6 billion), down 11 percent year-on-year. The African country imported goods to the value 1.17 trillion kwanzas, up 76.1 percent from a year earlier. It reported a trade surplus for Q3 of 345.4 billion kwanzas, 66.7 percent smaller than in the same period of 2013.
