East Timor’s international investment conference due in June

The Timor-Leste International Investment Conference will be held in East Timor’s capital, Dili, on June 6 and 7.

According to Australian company Informa Australia – which is organising the event ­with the support of East Timor’s government – the conference “will be a landmark event for this growing nation to showcase its investment potential across a range of industries”. The co-organiser said those include “petroleum/gas, mineral exploration, quarrying, civil construction, coffee and agriculture, tourism, transport and logistics”.

East Timor’s Minister of Planning and Strategic Investment, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, will officially open the conference at a reception scheduled for June 5. The event also includes a post-conference training course on “Maritime Law and Practice for Non-Lawyers”.

The Timor-Leste Investment Guide, targeting foreign investors interested in the country, will be presented during the event. The Government of East Timor has hired accounting services firm EY Portugal to create the promotional guide.

Participants in the conference include the President of TradeInvest Timor-Leste – the nation’s investment and export promotion agency – Arcanjo da Silva; the Australian Ambassador to East Timor, Peter Doyle; and the President of the Portuguese state organisation AICEP Portugal Global – Trade and Investment Agency, Miguel Frasquilho, according to the organisers.
