On September 26, the Chief Executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region, Ho Iat Seng, and the Minister of State Administration of Timor-Leste, Tomás do Rosário Cabral, signed the Memorandum of Understanding for City Twinning between the Macau Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China and the City of Dili of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.

The Chief Executive said that Macau and the city of Dili had signed a memorandum of understanding for city twinning to consolidate and strengthen friendly relations, taking the opportunity to continue to broaden cooperation between the two parties in the areas of economy and trade, tourism, culture and people-to-people exchanges.

The minister, Tomás do Rosário Cabral, expressed that the establishment of twinning links between the two cities, from different geographical areas, stems from the existence of similar characteristics or common historical points and references, as a result of their cultural richness and the search to create relations of friendship, solidarity and exchange, establishing protocol mechanisms, essentially at economic and cultural levels.
