Chinese Deputy Permanent Representative at the United Nations Wu Haitao has said his country wishes to see lasting stability and development in Guiné-Bissau, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency says Mr Wu told the UN Security Council when it discussed Guiné-Bissau on Tuesday that China firmly supported the people of Guiné-Bissau in exploring a development path that was suited to its conditions.

A presidential election is due to be held in Guiné-Bissau on November 24.

Sino-Guinéan cooperation in farming and healthcare has helped Guiné-Bissau feed its people and alleviate their poverty, Xinhua quotes Mr Wu as saying.

In a separate report, the Angolan state-run news agency, Angop, says the Guinéan elections commission took delivery on Tuesday of the last batch of the equipment that China promised to donate.
