State-run utility Electricidade de Moçambique EP (EDM) has given state-owned China Energy Engineering Corp. (Energy China) and Energy China subsidiary China Energy Engineering International a contract to build electricity transmission lines in central and northern Mozambique, China Energy Engineering International has announced.

The company issued a written statement saying it will build a 110 km, 400KV transmission line and a 228 km, 400KV transmission line serving Chibata and Dondo, and build or expand five associated substations.

The statement issued on Monday says the electricity infrastructure project is the first undertaken by Energy China in Mozambique.

The project is meant to make the electricity supply in central and northern Mozambique more reliable, Energy Engineering International says.
