China will keep working with other countries to bring stability to Guiné-Bissau and develop its economy, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Geng Shuang has said.

Asked about the presidential election in Guiné-Bissau, Mr Geng told a regular news conference on Friday that the first round of voting, on November 24, had gone smoothly.

“As a good friend of Guiné-Bissau, China hopes the second round of voting will proceed smoothly, too,” he said.

Two former prime ministers of Guiné-Bissau, Domingos Simões Pereira and Umaro Sissoco Embaló, will contest the second round, on December 29.
