Chinese company CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co. Ltd, which supplies trains that run on the Rio de Janeiro subway system, will collaborate in the expansion of the system, Xinhua reports.
The Chinese government-run news agency says CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles supplied all the rolling stock used on the 16km Metrô Rio Line 4, which opened before the Olympic Games were held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
The report quotes Metrô Rio Managing Director Daniel Habib as saying the railway operator and the train maker are both satisfied with the results of their collaboration so far.
“We found that the quality of the trains was above our expectations,” Mr Habib said. “We immediately decided to expand our collaboration.”
Chinese-made trains also run on Metrô Rio Line 1 and Metrô Rio Line 2, Xinhua says.
