From November 27 to 30, the Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, Ji Xianzheng, led a delegation to visit Beijing. Together with another delegation from Macao, the delegation met with the Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Ren Hongbin. Also, the delegation participated in the China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE) and held the Reception of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation Between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) in order to promote its function in economic and trade exchanges in mainland China.


The 1st China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE) was officiated on November 28 at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing. It is the world’s first national expo in the field of supply chain. Themed “Connecting the World for a Shared Future”, this expo integrated the functions of trade facilitation, investment co-operation, innovation clustering, and learning and exchange. It is committed to creating an international high-end co-operation platform connecting upstream, midstream, and downstream enterprises, integrating big, medium, and small enterprises, creating synergy between industries, academia, research, and application, as well as promoting interaction between domestic and international enterprises. The delegation of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao attended the opening ceremony, visited the pavilions at the venue, and exchanged ideas with exhibitors.


On November 29, the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao held a reception in Beijing. The Secretary-General, Ji Xianzheng, the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Lei Wai Nong, the Delegate of the Mission of Portuguese-speaking Countries in China and Angola’s Ambassador to China, João Salvador dos Santos Neto, delivered their speeches respectively.


Ji stated that Forum Macao has been focusing on economic and trade co-operation, people-to-people exchange, and facilitation of the “Global Development Initiative”, which has laid a solid foundation for constructing a community of shared future between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (PSCs). In line with the Strategic Plan formulated by the Ministerial Conference, the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao will continue to support the development of the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform in Macao, continue to contribute to the co-operation between China and PSCs in all fields as well as to the mutual understanding between people in these countries.


The Secretary for Economy and Finance, Lei Wai Nong, gave his video message. He said that Forum Macao has given full play to Macao’s unique advantages to foster exchanges and co-operation between China and PSCs in various sectors. In the future, the Macao SAR Government will continue to focus on the development positioning of “One Center, One Platform and One Base” to take advantage of the opportunities arising from the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Co-operation Zone in Hengqin, and to provide quality services to mainland China and PSCs in their economic and trade co-operation with Macao by integrating to the “1+4” development strategy so that Macao can further play its role as a platform. 


The Delegate of the Mission of Portuguese-speaking Countries in China and Angola’s Ambassador to China, João Salvador dos Santos Neto, noted that the goals of Forum Macao have been reached satisfactorily, the progress of the work has been made, and the functions of Macao’s platform have been remarkable. The PSCs are committed to deepening their strategic partnership with China to boost their own social and economic development. The PSCs hope to utilize Macao’s platform to attract more Chinese investments in basic infrastructure, renewable energy, agriculture and pastoral farming, blue economy, manufacturing, pharmaceutical industry and medical instruments, tourism, digital economy, mineral resources, and other sectors.


Representatives of different sectors from mainland China and Macao and diplomatic envoys of the PSCs in China had a broad exchange in terms of further reinforcing economic and trade co-operation among mainland China, Macao, and PSCs and boosting appropriate diversification of Macao’s economy.
