The University of Macao says officials from Angola and from São Tomé and Príncipe have visited the university with a view to increasing collaboration by universities in China and the Portuguese-speaking world in turning out people bilingual in Chinese and Portuguese.

The university issued a written statement saying São Toméan Health Minister Edgar Neves and an Angolan public health official, José Manuel Vieira Dias da Cunha, led the visitors.

The statement quotes their host, University of Macao Rector Song Yonghua, as saying his university is the biggest centre in Asia for turning out people bilingual in Chinese and Portuguese, and is dedicated making them outstandingly well-qualified to work in China and abroad, so contributing to cooperative development of China and the lusophone world.

The University of Macao supports Macao in the performance of its function as a place where China and the lusophone world can collaborate, and supports the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the statement quotes the rector as saying.
