Confucius Institute Day on September 24 is being celebrated by the branch of the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Verde in the Cape Verdean capital, Praia, A Nação reports.

The newspaper says the celebrations in the week leading up to Confucius Institute Day comprise a series of cultural activities, including screenings of Chinese films and karaoke singing of Chinese songs.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Verde was the first in Cape Verde, the result of a collaboration by the university and the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.

The Confucius Institute is an educational and cultural exchange organisation that teaches Mandarin and promotes Chinese culture.
