China’s Government is to donate US$500,000 to Angola to help it buy vaccine against yellow fever; Angolan news agency Angop reported this week.
It follows a request from the African country’s Government, China’s Embassy to Angola said in a statement quoted by the media outlet.
Angola is facing an outbreak of yellow fever. Last week, 10 people died and 38 suspected new cases were reported in the capital, Luanda, said Angop.
Since December, a total of 38 people have died in Angola due to yellow fever, Portuguese news agency Lusa reported. It added there had been more than 100 confirmed cases of infection in the country since then.
Yellow fever is transmitted to humans via mosquito bite. It can cause fever and jaundice, and it can be fatal.
