The National Stadium was reopened on the 21st of March after receiving rehabilitation works as a result of the partnership between the governments of Cabo Verde and China. The company Shannxi Construction Engineering was executing the works.

During the inauguration ceremony, Cabo Verdean and Chinese officials took a tour of the improved infrastructure, specifically the artificial turf, rubber running tracks, tribune of honour, among others.

In his speech, the Chinese ambassador to Cabo Verde said that the two parties have developed fruitful cooperation in the sports field, listing the sports infrastructure construction project delivered by the Chinese government to Cabo Verde in 2013, the technical assistance project at the National Stadium which started in 2015 and the sports material project last year.

The Minister of Sport of Cabo Verde expressed the desire to develop cooperation in another dimension with China, at the level of sport, that is, in developing training processes in various modalities and training human capital.
