On October 14, the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) hosted a demonstration of gastronomy from China and Portuguese-speaking countries at Vic’s Restaurante of Macau Fisherman’s Wharf. Representatives from Chinese-, English- and Portuguese-language media outlets were invited to the event, with a view to exchanging insights with the chefs and gaining a deeper understanding of the activities of the Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.

The Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, Ji Xianzheng, noted that gastronomy is a carrier of culture embodying the aspirations for a better life from the people of China and Portuguese-speaking countries. It is also a fundamental aspect of cultural inheritance and exchange among the countries, making it one of the principal elements of the Cultural Week. He added that at the demonstration today, the participants could savor delicate cuisine prepared by celebrated chefs from Angola, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, Timor-Leste and Macao (China), among other countries and regions, hoping that with the delicacies people may gain further insights into the cultures of the countries and may take gastronomic culture as a portal to experience and appreciate at first hand the rich and intriguing activities of the Cultural Week.

The Cultural Week, since its establishment in 2008, has been leveraging Macao’s function as a platform for cultural exchange and cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and the promotion of mutual understanding among people of these countries. The 16th Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries will be inaugurated on October 17. As gastronomy promotion is one of the highlighted activities of the event, renowned chefs from different countries and regions, including Angola, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, Timor-Leste and Macao (China), have been invited to prepare delicate dishes with their culinary craftsmanship.

The gastronomy promotion sessions will be held from October 18 to 22 at Vic’s Restaurante of Macau Fisherman’s Wharf, offering the public lunch and dinner options with distinctive features of Portuguese-speaking countries.
