Guinea Bissau’s President, José Mário Vaz, has appointed a new Government for the country, after weeks of negotiations with the nation’s new Prime Minister, Carlos Correia, Portuguese news agency Lusa reported.

The Guinean President released a decree on Monday appointing 15 Ministers and 14 State Secretaries. There was no agreement, however, on who should be in charge of the Public Administration and Natural Resources portfolios, which will temporarily be overseen by Mr Correia.

Mr Vaz on August dissolved the Guinean Government led by Domingos Simões Pereira, following internal political differences. The President later appointed Baciro Djá as the nation’s new Prime Minister, but the Guinean Supreme Court concluded the nomination was invalid.

Mr Correia was appointed Prime Minister last month, following a high-level meeting of Guinea-Bissau’s ruling party, the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC).

Negotiations between Mr Vaz and Mr Correia followed as to who should be included in the new cabinet.
