China Gezhouba Group Co. Ltd handed over last week goods worth some 3 million kwanzas (about US$8,725) meant for victims of drought in the southern Angolan province of Cunene, Jornal de Angola reports.

The Angolan newspaper said on Saturday the goods include food, water, clothes and backpacks.

The report says the company was responding to an appeal for aid made by the Angolan Construction and Public Works Ministry to all companies working in the African country.

For the past 10 years China Gezhouba Group has been building housing and port infrastructure in Angola, and exploiting sources of energy there.

The company recently started a programme of aiding Angolan children’s homes by donating food and school supplies to the Cazenga orphanage in the country’s capital Luanda.
