Chinese Ambassador to Angola Gong Tao has said his country is eager to help industrialise Angola and make its economy less dependent solely on exporting oil, Angop reports.

The Angolan state-run news agency quotes Mr Gong as telling Angolan reporters that China is focusing on spurring the construction of motor vehicle factories and recycling facilities, and the building of industrial fishing vessels, thus adding variety to the industrial base and creating jobs.

Chinese are looking for opportunities to invest in the 195 public-sector companies the government is privatising, Angop quotes the ambassador as saying.

In a separate report, the Portuguese news agency, Lusa, quotes Mr Gong as saying action the government of Angola has taken to counter corruption is increasing the likelihood of Chinese investing in the country.
