Angolan President João Lourenço has opened a new water supply system built by a Chinese contractor to serve the central Angolan city of Cuito in Bié province, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency quotes Si Qin, a spokesman for the contractor, China Railway 20 Bureau Group Corp., as saying at the opening ceremony that her company has built the biggest water supply system in central Angola.

Ms Si said the waterworks increased the amount of water available for consumption in Cuito each day to 15,000 tonnes, four times the amount available before, so benefitting over 160,000 people.

China Railway 20 Bureau began building the waterworks in July 2017, employed thousands Angolans to do the work, and trained over 400 to do specialist jobs, Xinhua says.
