The first China-São Tomé e Príncipe Scientific Medical Congress gathered São Toméan healthcare professionals and put them together with authorities in their respective fields from China, Cuba and Portugal, Téla Nón reports.

The São Toméan news website says the purpose of the two-day conference, held last week, was to improve the technical and professional skills of São Toméan healthcare workers.

The report quotes Chinese Ambassador to São Tomé e Príncipe Wang Wei as telling the conference that China is willing to help improve public healthcare in São Tomé e Príncipe so the country can develop economically and socially.

The São Toméan authorities are giving priority to setting up general practices around the country, Téla Nón quotes Ayres Menezes Hospital Director Pascoal d’Apresentação as telling the conference.
