Revenue from Mainland China’s domestic tourism industry rose 14 percent in year-on-year terms to 3.9 trillion yuan (US$563.6 billion) last year, Xinhua reports.
The government-run news agency cites the China National Tourism Administration which says the number of domestic trips reached 4.44 billion last year, an increase of 11 percent over 2015.
The surplus from the domestic tourism industry grew by 11.5 percent last year to reach US$10.2 billion.
This year, the administration forecasts domestic tourism will generate 4.4 trillion yuan, an increase of 12.5 percent over last year.The five-year tourism plan (2016-2020) has a target of a 2-trillion yuan investment in tourism by 2020.
