China provides Cabo Verde with emergency food aid of 10 million Chinese yuan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration of Cabo Verde said that the agreement to exchange notes regarding the allocation of food aid had been signed on the 7th of February in the city of Praia, for an amount of 10 million Chinese yuan, equivalent to 150 million escudos. The signing was carried out by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Miryan Vieira, and the ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Cabo Verde, Xu Jie.

According to the government of Cabo Verde, the support is a prompt response to the appeal launched by the government of Cabo Verde, following the declaration of a social and economic emergency situation caused by the covid-19 pandemic crisis, the prolonged drought that has plagued the country and the consequences of the war in Ukraine.

China has been one of Cabo Verde’s major development partners over the past 40 years, supporting in several areas such as food, social housing, military, economy, technology, security and training of cadres in culture and sports.
