On 23 January, Maricá City Hall formalized the Memorandum of Understanding on Friendship and Cooperation with the city of Jiagmen, in China. The agreement was signed at the Municipal Palace by the Secretary of Economic Development, Igor Sardinha, and the Jiagmen Foreign Affairs department director, Zhao Xiaobin.
The ceremony was attended by the consul general of China, Tian Min; representatives from China Mobile and CITIC; the COPPE researcher at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ); and authorities from the municipality.
The Secretary of Economic Development, Igor Sardinha, stated that Jiagmen was chosen because it is a city with similarities to Maricá and that it has an advanced stage of consolidation in the industrial, technological and tourist areas, and that is what the municipality has been seeking.
“It has been 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil. This memorandum of understanding will be a good start to celebrating bilateral relations. I hope that this signing of the memorandum of understanding will further boost relations between the two countries as well as between the two cities, said Consul General Tian Min.
